Thompson M-TEC is seeking an experienced and motivated Plumbing Instructor to teach adult students in our growing Skilled Trades programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed plumbing professional who enjoys mentoring others and wants to help individuals begin rewarding careers in the plumbing industry.
Our evening Plumbing Program combines classroom instruction with extensive hands-on training, preparing students with the foundational skills needed to enter a registered apprenticeship or begin a career in residential and commercial plumbing.
Curriculum, lesson plans, textbooks, and instructional resources are provided, allowing instructors to focus on student learning and engagement.
Position Overview
The Plumbing Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom and laboratory instruction that teaches students the fundamentals of plumbing installation, maintenance, repair, and safety. Students are primarily adult learners who may have little or no previous experience in the skilled trades.
The ideal instructor is patient, dependable, safety-conscious, and passionate about developing the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
Qualifications:
Required
- Minimum of 5 years of recent residential and commercial plumbing experience
- Current or previous Michigan Journeyman or Master Plumber License
- Strong knowledge of:
- Residential and commercial plumbing systems
- National Plumbing Code
- Plumbing safety practices
- Plumbing tools and equipment
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly
- Desire to mentor and teach adult learners
Preferred
- Previous teaching or employee training experience
- Associate degree or related education in plumbing or construction technology
- Experience working with apprentices or entry-level employees
Program Information
Program Length: 88 Hours
Students receive instruction in:
- Plumbing safety
- Plumbing tools and materials
- Blueprint reading
- Plumbing mathematics
- National Plumbing Code fundamentals
- Water supply systems
- Drain, Waste and Vent (DWV) systems
- Pipe installation techniques
- Soldering and joining methods
- Fixture installation
- Troubleshooting and repair
- Hands-on laboratory projects
The course is designed to prepare students for entry into a plumbing apprenticeship and employment in the skilled trades.
Schedule
- Two evenings per week
- Approximately 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- 88 instructional hours
- Fall and Spring offerings based on enrollment
